Understanding Diagnostics
When your pet is not feeling well, getting the right answer quickly makes all the difference. Our diagnostic services allow our veterinarians to look beyond the surface and identify what is actually going on inside your pet’s body. From routine lab work to advanced imaging and AI assisted cytology, accurate diagnosis is the foundation of effective treatment, and our team is equipped to find answers and get your pet on the path to feeling better as quickly as possible.

The Importance of Diagnostics
Diagnostics are what separate a guess from a diagnosis. Without the right testing, even experienced veterinarians are working with incomplete information, which can lead to delayed treatment, unnecessary medications, or missed conditions entirely. Many serious health issues in pets, including kidney disease, diabetes, cancer, infections, and organ dysfunction, do not show obvious outward symptoms until they have progressed significantly. Diagnostic testing allows our team to catch these conditions early, confirm what is causing your pet’s symptoms, and build a treatment plan based on facts rather than assumptions. The faster we can identify a problem, the better the outcome tends to be.
Comprehensive List of Diagnostics Services
Our diagnostic services are designed to give our veterinarians a complete picture of your pet’s health, inside and out. In-house bloodwork and lab testing allow us to evaluate organ function, blood cell counts, infection markers, and metabolic health within minutes rather than days. Urinalysis and fecal testing help identify urinary tract issues, kidney function concerns, and intestinal parasites that may not be visible to the naked eye. For a deeper look inside the body, we offer digital X-rays and ultrasound imaging to evaluate bones, joints, soft tissues, and internal organs, helping us identify conditions such as fractures, foreign objects, tumors, bladder stones, fluid accumulation, and abnormalities of the heart, liver, kidneys, and digestive tract.
Our diagnostic services include:
- In-house bloodwork and lab testing — rapid analysis of organ function, red and white blood cell counts, infection markers, parvo, and overall metabolic health
- Urinalysis — evaluation of kidney function, urinary tract infections, bladder issues, and early markers of systemic disease
- Fecal testing — screening for intestinal parasites including roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, giardia, and coccidia
- Digital X-rays — high quality radiograph imaging to evaluate bones, joints, the chest cavity, and abdominal organs, including detection of fractures, foreign objects, and masses
- Ultrasound — real time imaging of internal organs including the liver, kidneys, spleen, bladder, and reproductive organs, as well as the heart and surrounding structures
- Ear and skin cytology — microscopic analysis of ear discharge and skin samples to identify infections, yeast overgrowth, mites, and inflammatory conditions
- AI assisted cytology with The Imagist — an advanced on-site cytology system that analyzes tissue and mass samples at the cellular level, with results sent directly to a pathologist for fast and accurate diagnosis of tumors, lesions, and abnormal growths

When to Seek Diagnostics
Diagnostic testing is appropriate any time your pet is showing signs that something is not right, even if you cannot pinpoint exactly what it is. You should bring your pet in for diagnostic evaluation if they are experiencing persistent vomiting or diarrhea, unexplained weight loss, increased thirst or urination, lethargy, loss of appetite, difficulty breathing, a swollen abdomen, lumps or masses anywhere on the body, or changes in bathroom habits.
Diagnostic testing is also a valuable part of routine wellness care for pets at every life stage. Establishing baseline bloodwork and lab values early in your pet’s life, particularly during puppyhood and kittenhood, gives our veterinarians a reference point that makes it much easier to spot changes down the road. As pets enter their senior years, more frequent diagnostic screening becomes especially important, as age related conditions can develop and progress quickly even in animals that appear outwardly healthy. Before any surgical procedure, or any time a pet has been exposed to toxins, eaten something they should not have, or suffered an injury, diagnostic testing is also strongly recommended. If something feels off with your pet, trust your instincts and come see us. We would rather rule something out than have you wonder.
