Urgent Care
Fast, Compassionate Care When Your Pet Needs It Most
When your pet is not feeling well, waiting is not an option. Jones Veterinary Clinic provides prompt evaluation and treatment for illness, injury, and urgent health concerns, with same day appointments often available.
Understanding Urgent Care
Pets cannot tell us when something is wrong, which means it falls on us to recognize the signs and act quickly. Our sick and urgent care services are designed to evaluate and treat a wide range of health concerns, from sudden illness and injury to ongoing conditions like allergies, skin problems, and gastrointestinal issues. Whether your pet has been showing symptoms for a few days or something came on suddenly, our team is here to assess what is going on, provide treatment, and help you understand what your pet needs to recover. We see dogs, cats, and large animals including horses, livestock, and poultry for sick and urgent visits.

The Importance of Urgent Care
Many health conditions in pets can escalate quickly when left untreated. What starts as a mild ear infection can progress to a deeper infection affecting the inner ear and causing permanent damage. Gastrointestinal issues that seem minor can indicate serious underlying conditions such as intestinal blockages, pancreatitis, or parasitic infection. Urinary tract issues left untreated can lead to dangerous blockages, especially in male cats. Skin and allergy conditions cause significant discomfort and can become infected without proper management. Prompt evaluation and treatment not only relieves your pet’s discomfort faster but also prevents minor issues from becoming major health crises.
Comprehensive List of Urgent Care Services
Our sick and urgent care services cover a broad range of conditions and concerns. When your pet comes in for a sick visit, our veterinarians perform a thorough physical evaluation to assess their overall condition, identify the source of the problem, and develop an appropriate treatment plan. We treat both acute illness and ongoing conditions, and our in-house diagnostic capabilities mean we can often identify the cause and begin treatment in the same visit.
Our sick and urgent care services include:
- Illness evaluation and treatment — thorough physical assessment and treatment planning for pets showing signs of infection, disease, or sudden changes in health or behavior
- Injury assessment — evaluation and treatment of wounds, lacerations, sprains, fractures, and trauma resulting from accidents, falls, or animal altercations
- Allergy diagnosis and management — identification and ongoing management of environmental, seasonal, and food related allergies causing skin irritation, itching, hair loss, or digestive upset
- Ear infections — diagnosis and treatment of bacterial, yeast, and mite related ear infections, including evaluation of the ear canal for inflammation, discharge, and underlying causes
- Eye conditions — evaluation and treatment of eye infections, corneal ulcers, conjunctivitis, discharge, swelling, and other conditions affecting your pet’s vision and comfort
- Skin conditions and dermatology — diagnosis and treatment of rashes, hot spots, hair loss, lumps, scaling, and chronic skin conditions including bacterial and fungal infections
- Gastrointestinal issues — evaluation and treatment of vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, bloating, appetite changes, and other digestive concerns that may indicate infection, obstruction, or systemic disease
- Urinary tract issues — diagnosis and treatment of urinary tract infections, difficulty urinating, blood in the urine, inappropriate elimination, and blockages requiring urgent intervention
Our team works quickly to get your pet comfortable and on the path to recovery, and we take the time to make sure you leave with a clear understanding of the diagnosis and next steps.

When to Seek Urgent Care
You should bring your pet in for a sick or urgent care visit any time they are showing signs that something is not right. Common reasons to seek care include vomiting or diarrhea that has lasted more than 24 hours, blood in the stool or urine, straining to urinate or defecate, sudden lethargy or weakness, loss of appetite lasting more than a day, excessive scratching, licking, or chewing at the skin, head shaking or pawing at the ears, eye discharge or squinting, limping or sudden difficulty moving, open wounds or signs of trauma, and swelling anywhere on the body.
Seek immediate care if your pet is having difficulty breathing, is unresponsive or collapses, has a distended or rigid abdomen, is unable to urinate, is experiencing seizures, or has ingested a toxin or foreign object. These are signs of a potentially life threatening emergency and require prompt veterinary attention.
When in doubt, call us. It is always better to have your pet evaluated and find out everything is fine than to wait and allow a treatable condition to progress. Same day appointments are often available, and our team is ready to help.
